CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Will Manny capped an epic comeback by the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars, connecting from outside to give the MLL squad a 15-14 victory over Team USA in overtime in front of 6,589 fans at Harvard Stadium.
After falling behind 8-7 at halftime, the U.S. team held the MLL squad scoreless for the first 24 minutes of the second half while scoring seven straight goals to take a 14-8 lead with under six minutes to play.
The MLL rallied on goals by Michael Manley and Connor Buczek just 32 seconds apart and then pulled to within two on a two-pointer by Mike Chanenchuk with 4:04 left in the fourth quarter.
Kevin Rice trimmed the U.S. lead to one goal and then following a long U.S. possession, Buczek scored with just 13 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.
The overtime period featured some back-and-forth turnovers before Manny scored his third goal of the game to give the MLL team the victory. Manny, who also added an assist, was named the game's MVP.
John Haus led the U.S. team with three goals while Rob Pannell, Tom Schreiber and Jordan Wolf each scored twice.
The U.S. team, which trained during the week in Massachusetts, will head to Israel in just over a week for the Federation of International Lacrosse Men's World Championship. The U.S. opens against the Iroquois Nationals on July 12.
"It's been a dream of mine forever," Wolf said. "I can't believe it's already here. It's been a two-year process to make this. I could not be more excited to represent my country to represent my family and myself and hopefully bring the gold back to the U.S."
