Major League Lacrosse announced today that the 2018 MLL All-Star game will feature the U.S. men’s national team competing against a team of MLL All-Stars. The game will be played on Thursday, June 28 at Harvard Stadium.

“We are happy to bring the All-Star Game back to one of the most storied athletic venues in the country in Harvard Stadium,” MLL Commissioner Alexander Brown said. “Boston has hosted some of the greatest games in the history of MLL and we are excited to add to the rich lacrosse tradition here in Boston.”

This is the fourth time that the U.S. team will play the league’s all-stars leading into the world championship. The U.S. team has won all three previous meetings, but the last two have been decided by a single goal.

The U.S. won 18-10 in 2006 with Kevin Cassese earning MVP honors, 13-12 in 2010 with Brendan Mundorf earning MVP honors and 10-9 in 2014 with Rob Pannell being named the MVP. Pannell went on lead the U.S. team in scoring that summer and was named the outstanding attackman as the U.S. won silver in Denver, falling to Canada in the championship game.

“For us, speaking on behalf of Team USA, it’s an important step in the process,” said Pannell, at a press conference in Boston on Tuesday. “A lot of these guys have been with us in the last few months leading up to the 23-man roster being released. It’s certainly going to allow for great competition and they’re going to do everything they can in helping us prepare.”

The U.S. team includes 21 players currently playing in MLL and features the reigning Coca-Cola Most Valuable Player in Tom Schreiber and nine-time MLL All-Star Paul Rabil.

“We're grateful to Major League Lacrosse for providing us the opportunity to showcase our national team program and play against some great competition,” said Lance Basler, general manager of the U.S. national teams program. “This will be the final time the U.S. team plays together before heading overseas and we're looking forward to a great challenge against some of the sport's best players to help us prepare for the World Championships.”

The game will be part of a four-day training camp for the U.S. team in the New England region, and takes place a little over a week before the teams departs for Israel for the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse Men’s World Championship. A record 48 nations will compete in the world championship from July 12-21 in the coastal city of Netanya, Israel.
